What is vinyl siding?

Vinyl siding remains the most common siding material for good reason — it's the most budget-friendly option, requires essentially no maintenance beyond occasional washing, never needs painting, and won't rot or attract wood-boring insects the way natural wood siding can.

Modern vinyl siding has come a long way from older, thinner profiles — today's products offer thicker panels, more realistic wood-grain texturing, and a wider range of colors, including deeper tones that resist fading better than older vinyl formulations.

We do a full tear-off before installing vinyl, inspecting and repairing the sheathing underneath, and install with proper nailing technique that allows the panels to expand and contract with temperature changes — a detail that affects how well vinyl performs over Pennsylvania and New Jersey's seasonal temperature swings.

FAQ

Vinyl Siding questions.

Quality vinyl siding, properly installed, typically lasts 20 to 40 years. Lifespan depends on product thickness, sun exposure, and installation quality — improperly nailed vinyl can warp prematurely regardless of product quality.

All vinyl fades somewhat with UV exposure, though darker colors historically fade more than lighter ones. Newer vinyl formulations include better UV-resistant pigments than older products, which we can discuss when selecting color.

Vinyl becomes more brittle in cold temperatures, so we generally avoid installation below certain temperature thresholds to prevent cracking during handling, and plan installation timing accordingly.

It can be, especially with wood-grain textured profiles, though some historic districts have specific siding material requirements. We can help you check local guidelines before finalizing material choice.
